Why feed meal?

Getting calves to consume dry feed early is the key in reducing rearing costs. Trials have shown that a calf's rumen develops much earlier if the calf is feed solid feeds as early as possible. Early rumen development leads to less scours, healthier calves and better average daily weights.

Use one Braden Start Bottlefor 2 to 2.5 calves in a pen.
Keeps grain fresh and dry.
Calves started on the Braden Start Bottle will consume more dry feed than those started with an open trough.

The importance of water.

Water plays an important part in developing the rumen.Ensure calves have acces to clean fresh water from day one.

NEVER feed calves water from a teat.

Water needs to be directed to the rumen which can only happen with the drinking action from a trough, whereas when calves are suckling water from a teat the water is directed to the abomasum.
All Milk Bar Waterers are fitted with the McInnes Float Valve- a tough fully protected plastic valve.
