A common misconception is that fast feeding saves time in the calf shed.
Conducted at the Moorepark Research Farm in Ireland, this trial investigated the most time and labour efficient calf feeding method while still getting good weight gain.
Weight gains and total time caring for the calves were monitored.
The care time included treating sick calves, calibrating computerised feeders, cleaning equipment and changing bedding.
Conclusion
Calves fed from Milk Bar Feeders had higher weight gains and took less time to raise!
